The Deroche Retreat property was
acquired to provide the members of the
Fraser Valley Canadian Reformed Churches
(particularly the youth) an opportunity to
develop Christian leadership skills, foster
Biblical knowledge and encourage an active
faith life. At the same time the retreat
provides a venue to share God and His Word
with our neighbours. |

The search for a property
was inspired by the need for a place to host
the summer Bible camps. Finding a place to
rent proved to be challenging since most
facilities were fully booked during the
popular summer months. In the summer of 2003
God provided an opportunity for us to host
our first
Stepping Stones Bible Camp. We were able
to use the Elks’ facilities in Aldergrove
and on Denman Island. The Stepping Stones
Camps were hosted at the Elks facilities for
two years but the uncertainty of having
access to these properties forced us to keep
looking for our own property.
The search for suitable camp property led us
far and wide throughout the countryside of
southern B.C. God blessed our search with an
opportunity to acquire our own property,
near Mission, in Deroche, B.C. A number of
individuals from each church were approached
for support. Upon arriving in Deroche many
visitors were taken in by both the setting
and the close proximity to the Fraser Valley
churches. Sufficient funds were acquired to
purchase the property in 2005.

The Deroche Christian Retreat Society was
established to be responsible for the
ownership of the property. The Reformed
Conference Society has been set up to manage
the property and coordinate a wide range of
spiritually enriching events. Many
improvements have been made and continue to
be made to the property as services,
facilities and grounds are improved. Over
the years an amazing number of people have
been and continue to be involved with the
Deroche Retreat. Indeed God has continually
blessed the Deroche Retreat project. We pray
that it may continue to operate in His
service for many years. All thanks and
praise goes to Him. |
